Kinesitherapy and massage therapy

Muscle or joint pain?
What manual therapy can do

What orthopaedic manual therapy is, when it is recommended and how it combines with other treatments.

What is Orthopaedic Manual Therapy and how does it differ from a regular massage?

It is a specialist branch of physiotherapy based on clinical reasoning and specific manual techniques: joint mobilisations, manipulations and myofascial release. Unlike a generic massage, which mainly promotes superficial muscle relaxation, manual therapy addresses the source of the neuro-musculoskeletal problem: it restores movement in a restricted joint, reduces nerve compression and rebalances muscle chains altered by poor posture or trauma.

When is Manual Therapy recommended?

It is indicated for functional disorders of the spine and limbs: acute and chronic low back pain, neck pain, sciatica, restricted movement of the shoulder or hip, whiplash and tension-type headaches of muscular origin. Our practitioners use an approach based on international guidelines to treat painful trigger points and restore smooth movement.

Can manual therapy and shockwave therapy be combined?

Yes. The combination of the two methods is often used for chronic conditions: in plantar fasciitis or a shoulder tendinopathy, the radial shockwave acts on the regeneration of the inflamed tendon, while manual therapy corrects the joint stiffness and muscle compensations that caused the overload. The combined approach can help shorten recovery times.

What massage therapy is and what it involves

Massage therapy is among the most effective manipulation techniques for relieving pain, inducing relaxation and reducing stress. The practitioner massages the patient’s body applying various methods that allow precise work on painful or contracted areas: they warm certain zones, stimulate circulation and increase flexibility, producing an analgesic effect.

What kinesitherapy is and what it involves

Kinesitherapy is used effectively to help blocked joints regain their natural mobility. Stiffness may be caused by muscle injuries, bone fractures or surgery. Through manipulation and exercises that gradually increase in intensity, the therapist helps the patient restore muscle tone.
