Dietetics services in Perugia
What we eat has a significant impact on our health, both now and in the future. A consultation with our dietetics specialists will provide you with a personalised nutrition plan, designed around your specific needs and goals.
When to see a nutritionist?
Difficulty managing your weight, a metabolic condition to keep under control or nutrition needs linked to sport: a dietetic consultation is useful in case of:
- Overweight or difficulty managing weight
- Metabolic problems such as diabetes or high cholesterol
- The need to improve sports performance through nutrition
- Eating disorders or difficulties in managing food
- The need for a specific nutrition plan for pregnancy or menopause
What happens during the first visit with the nutritionist?
The first appointment lasts about an hour. It includes an in-depth interview on eating habits and health status, the measurement of anthropometric parameters (weight, height, circumferences) and a body composition analysis through bioimpedance (BIA). A personalised nutrition plan is then drawn up.
Should I bring blood tests to the first nutrition visit?
Yes, it is very useful to bring your most recent blood tests (from the last 6 months). If you have a diagnosed condition (diabetes, thyroid disorders, high cholesterol, coeliac disease), it is essential to bring the corresponding medical documentation.
What is Bioimpedance Analysis (BIA)?
It is a non-invasive test that, through an imperceptible electrical current, analyses body composition: fat mass, lean mass, muscle mass and body water (intracellular and extracellular). Unlike the scale alone, which measures overall weight, it makes it possible to assess whether weight changes correspond to a loss of fat or rather of muscle tissue or fluids.
How is nutrition adapted to the different training phases of an athlete?
Sports nutrition is dynamic. In the preparation phase the focus is on supporting muscle glycogen stores and protein synthesis; close to competition, carbohydrate-loading strategies and hydration/electrolyte management are applied; in the post-exercise recovery phase, a targeted ratio of carbohydrates and amino acids is used to support muscle recovery.
