Federico Sportellini is a Physiotherapist and Head of the Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy Section of the MediSport Center clinic, at the Perugia (Strada Pievaiola) and Città della Pieve (Po’ Bandino) locations. As coordinator of the rehabilitation area he designs and supervises the centre’s treatment protocols, leading a multidisciplinary team dedicated to the functional recovery of orthopaedic, post-surgical and sports patients.
He holds a university master’s degree in Manual Therapy and worked for years in professional sport, as physiotherapist first for Sir Safety Umbria Volley and then for Perugia Calcio. The experience gained in that setting is now applied to athletes of all levels and to the centre’s clinical patients.
Management of injuries in athletes according to the methods learned in professional football and volleyball medical staffs. The rehabilitation pathway is followed from the treatment table to the therapeutic gym, through to the recovery of sport-specific movement, strength and proprioception.
Functional assessment and application of specific manual techniques, joint mobilisations and soft tissue treatment (muscles, fasciae, tendons). An approach indicated for muscle contractures, joint restrictions and painful spinal syndromes such as low back pain, chronic neck pain and sciatica.
Use of mechanical acoustic pulses, a non-invasive technology employed to support tissue regeneration and treat calcifications in chronic degenerative musculoskeletal conditions, including plantar fasciitis, calcific shoulder tendinopathy, epicondylitis and chronic tendinitis.
Individual motor re-education aimed at functional and joint recovery after orthopaedic joint replacement surgery (hip, knee) or ligament reconstruction (anterior cruciate ligament, rotator cuff).
