Gynecology and obstetrics

What the gynecological visit includes

Our team of gynecologists provides prevention, diagnosis and treatment of conditions of the female reproductive system: uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes and vagina. The main gynecological services offered include:

  • Consultations on sexual and reproductive health, contraception and prevention of sexually transmitted infections
  • Screening and prevention: Pap test, HPV test, Thin Prep
  • Diagnosis and treatment of gynecological disorders
  • Care during pregnancy and childbirth
  • Menopause support, to manage hormonal changes effectively
At what point in the cycle is it best to schedule a routine gynecological check-up?

The ideal time is in the first phase of the cycle, just after menstruation ends (between day 5 and day 12 from the start of the flow): the endometrium is thin, the examination is more accurate and a Pap test can be performed during the same visit. In case of urgent issues or abnormal bleeding, the visit can take place at any time.

What is the Pap test and at what age should it be started?

It is a simple, painless screening test that detects early changes in the cells of the cervix, linked to the HPV (Papilloma) virus. It is recommended regularly every 1-3 years from the start of sexual activity, or in any case from the age of 21-25.

Which tests and ultrasounds make up the monitoring of a physiological pregnancy?

In the first trimester, an early ultrasound is performed for dating and viability, combined with prenatal screening (fetal DNA test or Bi-Test). In the second trimester (between weeks 19 and 22), the morphology (anomaly) scan is performed, essential for studying the anatomy of the fetus. In the third trimester (around week 32), a growth ultrasound assesses fetal development and the amount of amniotic fluid, complemented by cardiotocographic monitoring in the final weeks.

Pap Test and Swabs

These tests can be performed on their own or during a gynecological visit, as indicated by the specialist. At MediSport Center you can book:

The screening test for cervical cancer: a painless cell sample taken during the visit.

HPV testing and genotyping

Detects the Papilloma virus and identifies the strain: together with the Pap test it completes cervical screening.

Culture and molecular swabs (vulvar, vaginal, cervical, urethral)

Identify vaginal and cervical infections so that the right therapy can be chosen.

Testing for: Chlamydia, Neisseria, Mycoplasma, Trichomonas, HSV, Candida, Gardnerella and others

A complete panel for the main sexually transmitted infections.
